So I went to add a new balance to my venmo and it keeps saying funds can't be transferred. I've tried transferred both from my debit card and my bank account directly.

You can add cash to your Venmo account by taking your cash and Venmo debit card to a Walmart. Here is the relevant article from Venmo’s website.

I have the Venmo debit card and I am trying to transfer money onto it, but whenever I try it says, "We couldn't add your money" and nothing else. I have more than enough funds in my bank account, so I have no idea what the issue is. Please lmk if you have any ideas or are experiencing the same issue!

Linking your bank account to venmo means it draws money via ACH transfers, which are seen by your bank as 'recurring charges' and will overdraw your account of necessary. Linking your debit card means venmo acts more like digital cash for the same account, if you don't have it the transaction will decline.

My friends and I have been using Venmo debit cards for the past few months. One thing we noticed is that if you want to add money to your account from your bank, it takes a few days unless you pay an immediate processing fee.

This has caused me to remove ALL my debit credit cards from online accounts and switch to a prepaid card on to which I manually deposit money and use for online accounts. This limits the exposure to whatever balance I have on the card. If the card becomes compromised I trash it, get another, and move some money to it.
