They are of course open for the Caleffi valve to function. All these valves are full port ball valves. Normal operation When the system starts cold the Caleffi valve directs supply water through V5 back to the boiler through V4 until it reaches the setpoint temperature. During this time no water is flowing to or from the system.
Planning a new hydronic install off a Williamson cast iron boiler. Debating between the all in one dirt and air separator from Caleffi vs separate units from Spirovent for air and Adey Magnaclean XP2 for dirt metal. Does anyone have any preference or see a benefit to one vs the other?
My hydronic baseboard heating system has a Caleffi Discal for air separation (see image below). The overall system operates nicely, at 20 psi, but I am hearing significant air noise from the pipes and pumps. Could it be possible that the Discal is not purging air properly? I don't know if it has been ever cleaned serviced. Cleaning looks easy (i.e. close valves, open, clean, inspect, put ...
I don't like roof penetrations when I can avoid them, so that fan will be high in the rake wall and is there mostly for show.
The Caleffi ZSR will be going out with removable 40 Va transformers now, same as the ZVR boxes. So you should have plenty of transformer power on board. Needs to be a relay with a 2023 date code, that is when they started going out with 40 VA instead of 15 20Va, common on switching relays. I just have a boiler and a indirect water tank.

Just about every manufacture has an air separator now. They all say theirs is the best. There is Spirovent, Taco, Honeywell, Caleffi, Watts just to name the popular ones. Has anyone ever seen a comparison of these to see which one is actually better? We're probably splitting hairs, but it would be nice to see a performance test to see if they perform as good as the manufactures claim.
Im using a Caleffi 535H series prv and recently ended up with some dirt sand running through it and when I pulled it apart it had 2 chunks of sand stuck in the seat as well as sand in the screen. I carefully cleaned it all out at the kitchen table over a bowl using bottled water and once I was sure it was clean took it back down and assembled it.
Hi again, folks, I adjusted the flow on some of the ports on my caleffi 668S1 manifold and a couple of the ports started leaking from the flow meter side, either between the plastic flow meter and the brass, or between the two brass parts (See arrows on the pic).
