Inspired by Mother’s Day, Dodd’s idea gained support and eventually spread to other countries, including Canada. Over time, the day became a popular occasion to recognize fathers and father figures nationwide.

Despite these differences, both days celebrate the profound influence of mothers worldwide, with a slight majority of 56 out of 104 countries opting for the modern May date.

While the United Kingdom (UK) marked Mothering Sunday on March 30, under the quiet skies of a New Moon, many other countries—including the United States, Germany, Italy, and Australia—will celebrate Mother’s Day on May 11, when a Full ish Moon rises.
