My family and I would like to try and visit Neuschwanstein Castle in 2 days, though we do not have tickets. I’ve read that even without tickets, you can walk some of the grounds. 2) Between Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau tours you should leave at least 2 hours 2 and a half hours, according with which castle you would like to start. If you start with Hohenschwangau, then it is better to leave 2 and a half hours. If you start with Neuschwanstein, 2 hours.

We chose to walk up to the castle (but didn't have a 4 year old with us), LOVED the scenery (!), and enjoyed the tour. I would happily visit Neuschwanstein again (the grounds outside), and the guided tour was worth doing once. We went off season and for us, the lack of crowds facilitated having a great experience.

Neuschwanstein Castle was on my "must do" list. It was exactly what I knew a visit to Bavaria would have to include. I took a special day tour just to be able to get to it. I was so disappointed once I went inside. The tour is fairly quick as they shuttle you through and before you know it, you are down in the t shop at the end of the tour.

I largely share demag's impressions. It's a whole lotta overpriced theme park atmosphere, with high prices for the rushed and overcrowded walk through of this late 19th century mock up (a residential palace with a fake castle exterior, in no way a real castle.) Looking at taking the Radius Tour from Munich to Neuschwanstein Castle in mid October. Looking for feedback on the experience and if that is the best option as I will not have a car. Does anyone recommend any other way to make this day trip?

Going to Neuschwanstein is easy, and the guided tour of the castle is required to get in, and included with €9 admission (which is not included in the tour price). The village that Neuschwanstein Castle is in is charming plus you get to see the castle up high from the outside while walking around the village. The tour of the castle was only 30 minutes long, not very interesting and not much was included in the tour, still, you might want to check it off your list of places to see.

The castle is like a 15 minute bus ride from Fussen but then you have to walk up hill; I went there two months ago on a day trip from Augsburg. I did not tour the inside but went up to get the iconic view from Marienbruck.
