Fram still shows the non wire backed Ultra having the same efficiency and "up to" 20K mileage use rating. Fram has also gone to a louvered center tube on the Ultras and Endurance models that I've seen.
Now we know why they ruined Fram. I am cheering for bankruptcy liquidation then maybe the original Fram owners can buy them back?
The modern Fram Ultra is no longer wire backed but it still has great efficiency. The Wix XP is still wire backed last time I checked but the efficiency is a rock catcher. What are you looking for in your filter? How long a service interval? How important is filtering efficiency? Etc.

If the Fram Ultra air filter from Walmart is better (as Fram claim it is) vs the Fram basic filter tested here, then that is clearly the best buy on efficiency and longevity and price. Just need to examine it to make sure it's quality has not gone down like their oil filters. They should test the German and Japanese air filters.
While Fram is Subaru's OE supplier, Fram doesn't use the correct bypass in their aftermarket Subaru filters Some people care about that more than others. M1 is almost never worth buying now, and your Subaru is no exception. The M1 now comes from Purolator, so it's equivalent to the P1. For that price, you're better off with the Endurance.
